Just as when visiting a meetup, the first questions are; Who are you, and what do you do? Let me answer this real quick.
My name is Roland Verhaar. I come from the Netherlands and have moved to Charleston, SC
I work as contractor / freelancer on IT projects. Projects can span from complete infrastructure and application migrations to building websites, portals or webshop applications, based on Open Source software. These fields are my expertise; IBM Domino / Notes, Microsoft Exchange administration, Microsoft Windows Server administration, Infrastructure management and security.
I am enthusiastic and driven to reach goals. I can work alone on projects, but I can also work together in a team. More complex problems need careful planning and careful handling, so then I will spend time to get to the bottom of matters. Once a decision is reached, I will plan and act with a 'steady hand'. I like to work on projects as they have an end-date. The moment a projects is executed and handed over to the maintenance team is my satisfaction.
Because the impact on business processes can be high, it is important to have knowledge and act according to company policy. Policy and compliance is important in many of the businesses, so those have become second nature. Especially where security is involved.
Furthermore I can communicate with all layers in an organization, I can transfer knowledge to co-workers and am convinced that documentation is crucial.
